Ozempic® (semaglutide) is an injectable prescription medicine used for:
- Improving blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes when combined with diet and exercise.
- Reducing the risk of major cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, or death) in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease.
Important Safety Information for Ozempic®
Do Not Use Ozempic® If:
- You or your family have ever had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
- You are allergic to semaglutide or any other ingredients in Ozempic®.
Inform Your Healthcare Provider If You:
- Have a history of pancreatitis or kidney issues.
- Have a history of diabetic retinopathy.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding, or plan to become pregnant or breastfeed. You should stop using Ozempic® at least 2 months before becoming pregnant.

Possible Side Effects of Ozempic®

- Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas): Stop using Ozempic® and contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe abdominal pain, with or without vomiting, that may radiate to your back.
- Vision changes: Notify your healthcare provider if you experience changes in vision while taking Ozempic®.
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): The risk of hypoglycemia increases when Ozempic® is taken with other diabetes medications like insulin or sulfonylureas. Symptoms of low blood sugar include:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Blurred vision
- Anxiety, mood changes, or irritability
- Sweating, shaking, or weakness
- Fast heartbeat or feeling jittery
- Slurred speech or confusion
- Kidney problems: In those with existing kidney issues, dehydration caused by nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea may worsen kidney function. It’s important to stay hydrated.
- Serious allergic reactions: Seek medical help immediately if you experience symptoms such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe rash, dizziness, or a rapid heartbeat.
- Gallbladder problems: Some people have reported gallbladder issues, such as pain in the upper stomach, fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), or clay-colored stools.
